who we are
Our Team
On behalf of the HOSA (Health Occupations Students of America) association, we aim to spread community awareness about the detrimental effects of NSAIDs and bring light to the public.
Future Health Professionals
Spreading Awareness
Our mission
Approximately 15% or 30 million people worldwide consume OTC (Over-The-Counter) NSAIDs (Non-Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs) daily to relieve both acute and chronic pain. The three most common NSAIDs include aspirin, ibuprofen, and naproxen. Though individuals consume NSAIDs, many are unaware of the long-term adverse effects associated with NSAIDs including but not limited to stomach ulceration, GERD (gastroesophageal reflux disease), and other gastrointestinal issues.
Therefore, our campaign aims to spread awareness about the detrimental effects of Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs and advocate for the decreased usage of NSAIDs.
Our Vision
In terms of the future, our vision is to ensure the safe consumption of over-the-counter painkillers and find viable replacements for NSAIDs to limit the consumption of medicinal drugs that are associated with prolonged adverse effects, specifically NSAIDs. The continuous or chronic use of NSAIDs has been scientifically proven to cause gastrointestinal problems. Thus, our vision seeks to limit such effects influenced by NSAIDs.
Our story
As students of a high school located in Florida, we believe that it is important to understand the various health issues that are associated with the consumption of NSAIDs. This is because Florida’s demographic population is ranked second in terms of the highest percentage of people aged 65 and up. The prevalence of NSAID use in patients who are 65 and up is approximately 96%. As a result, this issue heavily relates to our community and the demographics of our population.
collaboration
Partnerships
The collaboration of other medical health facilities and clubs within our high school and Brevard County will facilitate the process of spreading awareness concerning the limited usage of NSAIDs.
Local Partnerships:
1. Who We Play For
2. MusicMD
3. EFSC Professor Dr. Ashley Spring
4. HOSA Chapter 15951
Our project is guided by the HOSA foundation, which allows us to create further partnerships and thus spread the word concerning our chosen health issue. With HOSA, we high school students are provided the opportunity to learn and showcase our skills in the field of health and medicine. Therefore, with our partnerships, we plan to provide the best-guided path for you and your health journey.
Target Audience
Our target audience mainly focuses on the older demographic population as approximately 96% of individuals 65 and up consume NSAIDs. Although the older population is our main focus, we hope to advocate our cause to the younger population for preventative measures.
